A wonderful film with great archival footage that tells the under-reported story of Black Americans in France during the first half of the 20th century. The encounters of these artists, soldiers and adventurers with their French hosts opened new opportunities for the visitors and enriched both cultures. A fascinating story told with insight and sensitivity.

I wasn’t sent a link or any information on how to view this film once I had paid for the rental. The viewing is through Vimeo which needs a pass code but this was not provided. I then paid to rent it via Vimeo directly but (without any prior indication) this turned out to be the French-language version. Fine if that suits you, but not if your French is not up to scratch.
